For us Portlandiers, you know what i'm talking about! So the chemist in me (my undergraduate degree is in Chemistry) wants to let you all know that 48 years ago today the first working laser was invented. Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. The first fictional device similar to a military CO 2 laser appears in the sci-fi novel The War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells in 1898. And there is your trivia for the day!
